Rochas and Imo economy His name is Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha. He is the Governor of Imo State, one of Nigeria’s most enlightened states. Just like Atiku Abubakar, he is one of Nigeria’s public office holders more popular by their first names. So, we shall limit this discourse to calling him Rochas (no disrespect please). And it happened that as governor of Imo State, Rochas (now in his second term) has brought more animation, drama and clownishness into government house. But make no mistake about it, Rochas is not your definition of a dullard. He’s smart, street-wise and a gifted orator. Smooth-talking, fast-speaking and has capacity to invent words to talk himself out of trouble and maintain his fluency rather than grope or stutter for the next word. Nigerian oil subsidy scammer jailed in the UK for money laundering Walter Wagbatsoma, chairman, Ontario Oil & Gas Limited who was sentenced to 10 years following his prosecution by EFCC for N754million oil subsidy fraud, has been convicted by Leicester Crown Court in UK for money laundering. Following a trial at Leicester Crown Court a thirteenth defendant has been convicted of conspiracy to launder money in an international fraud and money laundering investigation. This investigation was conducted by Lincolnshire Police Economic Crime Unit under Operation Tarlac, in which over £12m was defrauded from public bodies including hospital trusts, housing associations and councils around the UK. Walter Wagbatsoma, 47, was originally detained on a European Arrest Warrant in June 2016 whilst travelling through Germany. Gunmen kill two police officers, abduct an American and a Canadian in Kaduna

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, on Tuesday killed two policemen and abducted two foreign nationals, a Canadian and an American, on Kwoi-Jere road in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State . According to reports, the victims leaving Kafanchan and Kaura where they had gone for a visit when the gunmen ambushed them, opened fire on their vehicle, killed the two police officers that served as escorts before kidnapping the foreign nationals. The Kaduna state police command is yet to react to the development.

British Prime Minister, Theresa May has appointed a minister for loneliness to honour the legacy of the murdered Labour MP Jo Cox and tackle the isolation felt by some people in the UK. According to Reuters, Sports minister Tracey Crouch will take on the new role, in addition to her existing job, and develop a strategy to address the problem, wh ich research has linked with dementia, early mortality and high blood pressure.
