Former Cross Rivers State Governor, Donald Duke declares for 2019 Presidency

A former Governor of Cross River State,  Donald Duke,  has said he will contest for presidency in the 2019 election.   Duke, who declared his interest for the job at the third  Mike Omotosho  annual lecture titled:  ‘Mellinials as Protagonists in Nation Building,”  on Sunday night in Abuja, promised to kick-start the process at the right circumstances.   According to him,  “I am entitled to run for the presidency of this country. I am entitled to it. Only on right circumstances I will aspire for it. I don’t shy away from responsibility, only the right circumstance, I will aspire for presidency of this country. I have what it takes to be president of this country.” Duke, however, challenged the youths to fully participate in the electoral process by getting their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and sensitising others ahead of 2019 general election, rather than loafing around, looking for who to heap their problems on". The last has definitely not been heard in the controversial red wedding dress that made news in December last year. An aggrieved bride,  Lawrentta Adesuwa Sawyer , on January 1st this year, called out designer,  Maryam Elisha  of  Rikato by Me , for giving her wedding reception dress to actress  Mercy Aigbe  to use for her 40th birthday shoot. The bride in her post online said she gave Maryam the red fabric to make her wedding reception dress in December 2017 and that Maryam failed to deliver the dress to her on the date they agreed. She recognised her  dress on Mercy Aigbe and immediately called out Maryam. It became an internet sensation with many Nigerians calling on her to sue Maraym. Well, it appears she is taking the legal step as her lawyers have written to Maryam demanding a compensation from her. EFCC Seeks Forfeiture of Patience Jonathan’s $8.4m, N9.1bn

The  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC, on Monday, January 15, 2016, filed an ex-parte application seeking an order of interim forfeiture of various sums of money linked to the wife of former  President Goodluck Jonathan  in 15 bank accounts. The ex parte application is supported by a 15-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Huleji Tukura, an investigator with the EFCC. The application was brought pursuant to Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act no. 14, 2006 and Section 44 (2) b of the 1999 Constitution.  The former First Lady is joined in the suit alongside Globus Integrated Services Limited, Finchley Top Homes Limited and Am-Pm Global Network Limited. Others respondents are: Pagmat Oil And Gas Limited, Magel Resort Limited And Esther Oba. Moving the application before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel to the EFCC, prayed for an order of the court to forfeit...

Handshake Across the Niger’: IPOB lambasts Nwodo, disowns women group

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Sunday distanced itself from a group, which disrupted the speech of the Ohanaeze President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, during the recently concluded summit in Enugu. IPOB, however, blasted Nwodo’s leadership of Ohanaeze, stating that Ndigbo had since lost confidence in him. DAILY reports that the summit, with the theme: “Handshake Across the Niger”, was attended by Yoruba, Igbo, South-South and Middle Belt leaders. However, as soon as Nwodo mounted the stage to address the audience, on a speech which bordered on restructuring, a  pro-Biafra group, consisting mostly of women gave interrupted with dissenting voices. The group, which displayed banner suggestive of membership of IPOB, said they were not interested in restructuring but Biafra. One of such banners read: “Nnamdi Kanu we know, but who are you people”? But in a statement, the IPOB spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful said the IPOB know nothing about the group. ...

Italian luxury fashion, Dolce & Gabbana’s fall ’18 runway show took place at Milan Men’s Fashion Week over the weekend and it featured young up-and-coming talent. The sons of rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs and actor James Marsden including social media influencer Cameron Dallas were among the young stars who made the runway. But Christian Combs, Diddy’s 19-year-old son, was the biggest star of the night as he opened the show, hitting the catwalk in a gold-brocaded tailcoat paired with slim trousers and velvet embroidered logo loafers from the collection titled “King’s Angels.”  He completed his look with black suede shoe and white crown socks.

Kidnapped Taraba Lawmaker, Hosea Ibi, found dead

A member of the  Taraba State House of Assembly , Honourable  Hosea Ibi , who was abducted by gunmen in  December 31st 2017, has been found dead. The state police command spokesperson, David Misal, who confirmed the development, said the lawmaker who represented Takum II Constituency in the State Assembly, was found dead  along Takum-Kashimbila road in his local government, Takum Local Government Area of the state today January 15th. Misal added that preliminary investigations shows that Ibi might have died three days before his body was found today. While the police said they were making efforts to rescue the legislator, no demand for ransom was made from any quarter.

NYSC Suspends Orientation Course In Benue

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says the 2017 Batch ‘B’ stream II orientation course scheduled to hold in Benue from Jan. 16 to Feb. 5 has been suspended till further notice. The scheme made the announcement on its official Facebook page in Abuja on Sunday. It said that a new date would be communicated in due course to prospective corps members deployed to the state for the orientation. “The NYSC management wishes to inform all prospective corps members deployed to Benue and Taraba states that the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course scheduled to hold in Benue camp has been suspended. “A new date will be communicated to you in due course. All inconveniences are highly regrettable,” the scheme said. Earlier, the NYSC had issued a statement that the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course would hold in only 15 camps nationwide. The camps were in Abia, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Enugu, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Rivers and the ...

Senator Ben Bruce who spent the weekend visiting communities in Bayelsa State like Odioma, Twon Brass, Egwema, Sangana and Akassa has lamented on the lack of roads in these areas. According to him,  'it is sad that in this modern day, there are no access roads in these communities. My people only commute via water which is very insecure. Our waterways need to be secured and shoreline protection needs to be looked into to stop the growing erosion'.

Governor Fayose kicks against FG's plan to build cattle colonies across every state in Nigeria

Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, via his twitter handle, kicked against plans by the Federal government to build cattle colonies in the state. Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, at a meeting with some Northern governors and the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, disclosed plans by the government to build cattle colonies as ay of curbing the bloody clash herdsmen have with farmers in some parts in the country. Fayose says this is not a welcomed development and that he will not allow it in his state. 

10 killed as gas station explodes in Lagos

10 persons have been confirmed dead in an explosion that occured at the  Second Coming Gas station  in Magodo,  Lagos state  this morning January 11th. The gas plant is located on CMD Road, opposite  Magodo Brooks Estate . Operatives of the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are currently at the scene to contain the fire and carry out rescue operation. The cause of the explosion is yet unknown. .
